HHMI - Paul's Life and Letters ~ Pt 13 ~ Untangling the "Age of Law/Age of Grace" Tangled Knot
from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney
When Yeshua died on the tree, did he nail the Torah to the cross? The doctrine is as follows: that before Yeshua died on the tree, we were in the Age of Law, but after Yeshua died on the tree, we are now in the Age of Grace. This doctrine is also called “Dispensationalism”. However, this doctrine is the heart of “Replacement Theology”, the belief that the church has replaced Israel and that the Age of Grace supercedes (or does away with) the Age of Law. This doctrine says that because we are now living in the Age of Grace, believers in Yeshua as Messiah are not obligated to follow the “Law” (or the Torah). This goes back to the basic understanding of what sin is. Here is the bible definition for sin: Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the Torah: for sin is the transgression of the Torah. 1 John 3:4 So, sin IS transgression of the Torah. If we repent of our sin, then we are to start following and obeying the Torah! Torah includes all of the bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Paul also wrote: For until the Torah sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no Torah. Romans 5:13 If the Torah has been “done away” with, then it is not possible to sin. This makes no logical sense. When we repent of our sin, we are to stop sinning and pursue a holy life. We are to follow the Torah by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit and live a holy life.
