HHMI - Paul's Life and Letters ~ Pt 5 ~ Messiah is the Goal, Aim & Target of the Torah

from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney

As we examine the content of Paul’s letters, we will answer the question, “In Paul’s letters did he speak for or against the Torah?” Paul taught that we are saved by grace through faith. He then asks the question in Romans 3:31: Do we then make void the Torah through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the Torah . How are we to interpret the verse below? For Christ is the end of the Torah for righteousness to every one that believes. Romans 10:4 Did Yeshua die on the tree so that we could now sin and NOT follow the Torah? The phrase “is the end” in Greek, is “telos” and it means: to make aim, to reach the goal or target. The Torah was given to us as a covenant. We have been covenant breakers and we deserve death for breaking the covenant. The Torah points us to the Messiah. He is our goal and our target. Messiah took the penalty of sin upon Himself so that we could be reconciled to the Father through His shed blood. Paul also teaches us that the Torah is written of the Messiah: And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the Torah of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
