HHMI - Romans ~ Pt 12 ~ The Wild and Natural Branches of the Olive Tree

from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney

Say unto them, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in my hand. Ezekiel 37:19 What will be the outcome of this reuniting of Northern Kingdom to Southern Kingdom? Ezekiel 37:24 gives us the answer: And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. Ezekiel 37:24 Why is the imagery of two sticks used? In Hebrew, the word for stick it “ets” and it means “tree”). In Jeremiah 11 we see that the house of Judah and the house of Israel is likened to an Olive tree: The LORD called your name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken. For the LORD of hosts, that planted you, has pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal. Jeremiah 11:16-17 The olive tree described above was the literal house of Judah (Southern kingdom) and the literal house of Israel (Northern kingdom). What Paul is explaining in Romans 11, is that the redeemed house of Jacob (which consists of both Northern kingdom and Southern kingdom) is the olive tree being described in Romans 11. This redeemed olive tree, which is Israel, consists of wild branches (Northern kingdom) and natural branches (Southern kingdom).
