HHMI - Romans ~ Pt 7 ~ Dead to sin, Alive to Messiah Yeshua
from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney
In this session, Eddie does a detailed analysis of Romans Chapter 6. There is a misunderstood verse in this chapter that traditional Christianity will use to try to say that we are not to follow the Torah: For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:14 We will look at this chapter from a Hebraic perspective so we can understand the point that Paul is making. We will see that Paul is making a spiritual analogy and a spiritual comparison. He compares the literal death of Yeshua to our own spiritual walk: In this spiritual analogy, Paul is equating being immersed in Messiah with being immersed or identifies with his death. Know you not, that so many of us as were baptized into Yeshua were baptized into his death? Romans 6:3 In the next verse, Paul shows us that as we are identified in Yeshua’s death, then spiritually we are to walk in His resurrection: Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4 Paul goes on to show us (in Romans 8:11-12) that if we are identified in Yeshua’s death, burial and resurrection then we are to be dead to sin, to the flesh and to the world. We are not to live a sinful lifestyle. That means we are to follow the written Torah of Yeshua.
