A common misunderstanding is that it was the Jews who received the Torah at Mt Sinai. Who was there at Mt Sinai to receive the marriage proposal and the covenant? And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; e have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine. Ex. 19:3-5 It was the house of Jacob. That includes ALL 12 tribes. It includes the Jewish and the non Jewish part of the nation of Israel. We traditionally think of church as “New Testament”. When was the church actually born? Many think it was in Acts 2 with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit: This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the Mount Sinai, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us.
