HHMI ~ The Passover in John 6 ~ Pt 2 ~ Regathering the Remnant of Israel

The timing for the teaching that Yeshua gave in John 6 is near the time of Passover. The setting is upon a mountain. Torah is taught from a mountain. The multitudes are gathered there to hear Yeshua teach the Torah. “Multitudes” is code for the exiles of Israel, particularly the Northern kingdom, who became scattered, first to Assyria, and then to the nations of the world. They are sick and diseased because they didn’t follow the Torah. The penalty for not following Torah was exile to the nations. What follows next is the miracle feeding of 5,000 with 5 loaves and 2 fishes. What is the meaning of the five barley loaves? They represent the five books of the Torah. At the deeper level, Yeshua is going to “feed” the exiles of Israel the Torah. What is the meaning of the two fish? They represent the two houses of Israel, Judah and Ephraim, Northern and Southern kingdom. After the 5,000 are fed the disciples are told: When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. John 6:12-13 “Gather up the fragments” is an allusion to the Messiah gathering up the exiles of Israel.The Messiah will gather the remnant of exiles of Israel. And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.Jeremiah 23:3 What do the 12 baskets represent? They represent the regathering of all 12 tribes. This is the role and mission of the Messiah when He returns: to gather and unite all 12 tribes and return them to the land of Israel.
