From the Jewish Artscroll Rosh Hashanah Ashkenaz, (a Jewish prayer book) we learn about 10 reasons for the sounding of the shofar. Here are those reasons for blowing the shofar: *The shofar is blown to make a proclamation and declaration that the God of Israel is King over the whole earth. *It is a warning to repent before the God of Israel. *It is to remind us to follow the Torah of the God of Israel. *So that we would hear the word and the message of the prophets of the God of Israel. *So that we would pray for the rebuilding of the Temple. *To remember the binding of Isaac upon the altar, who offered his life to the God of Israel. and to remind us to offer our life as a whole burnt offering unto the God of Israel. *To remind us to have fear and reverence for the God of Israel. This is expressed by keeping His commands. When we hear the sound of the shofar, it causes us to shake, to fear and to tremble, and to humble ourselves before the God of Israel. *To remember the Day of Judgment is coming upon us. *To remember the ingathering of the exiles of Israel and to awaken our yearning for it. *To proclaim our faith in the resurrection of the dead.
