HHMI ~ Two Houses and NT ~ Pt 3 ~ A Voice Crying in the Wilderness
from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney
In the ministry of John the Baptist he is announcing the coming of the Messiah and the redemption for His people. Did you know that everywhere in the bible when you find the name Jacob it is spelled without the Hebrew letter vav except for 5 places where you do find the Hebrew letter vav. Also, everywhere you find the name Elijah, you DO see the Hebrew letter vav in the name….except for 5 places where it is NOT spelled with the Hebrew letter vav. Why is this? It is to teach us that Elijah will come and redeem the seed of Jacob. Elijah will come and announce the coming of the Messiah, the redemption of the house of Jacob and the ingathering of the 12 tribes of Israel. John the Baptist is a voice crying in the wilderness. He was moving in the spirit of Elijah in calling the people to repentance, and to prepare the way for the first coming of the Messiah, for the kingdom of God is at hand (Matthew 3:3, Isaiah 40:1-3). Sin is defined as “transgression of the Torah”. (1 John 3:4). Repenting from your sin means deciding to follow the Torah which is the way of Yahweh. The voice crying in the wilderness (Isaiah 40:3) is associated with repenting of your sins, and comforting the exiles of Israel. Thus says the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not. Thus says the LORD. Jer. 31:15 In this passage, we see a picture of Rachel weeping for her children. Then she is told NOT to weep. Who are her children? Her children are the seed of Joseph/Ephraim who have been scattered to the nations. Why is she told NOT to weep? Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. And there is hope in your end, says the LORD, that your children shall come again to their own border. Jer. 31:16-17 This is referring to the END of the exile, that the people of house of Israel/Northern kingdom, who have been scattered to all the nations will one day be GATHERED and led on a journey HOME to Israel.
