HHMI ~ What the Rabbis Teach About Ten Tribes ~ Pt 1 ~ Joseph and His Brothers
from Hebraic Heritage Radio Podcasts · host Eddie Chumney
The rabbis teach that the story between Joseph and his brothers, their separation and eventual reunification and restoration, this is a foreshadowing about the split between the Northern kingdom (Ephraim) and Southern kingdom (Judah), and ultimately, their eventual reunification. The story of Joseph and his brothers (Genesis 38-50) is not an unfolding of chance events, but every detail stems from God and serves His purpose. The conflict that arose between Joseph and his brothers is a sign for their descendants. When Joseph reveals himself to his brothers (Gen 45), the reconciliation that ensued alludes to a future time. The two kingdoms will be restored into a single kingdom. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD. Isaiah 65:25 The lion and the lamb feeding together, at the deeper sod level, is an allusion to when the kingdom of Judah and the kingdom of Ephraim will eat and graze together as a single and restored kingdom.
