What are the rabbi’s expectations for the Messiah? What is it that they are looking for?They expect the Messiah to be a Judge, a Savior and a King. In the book of Judges, the children of Israel fall away from the Torah. They would then come under oppressive kings. They would then cry out for deliverance. The Lord would hear their cry and raise up Judges to deliver them. These saviors had the characteristics of Moses. Yeshua is our judge. Yeshua is also our Savior. The God of our fathers raised up Yeshua, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. Acts 5:30-31 In Jewish thought, the rabbis understand that the term, “son of David” is a term for the Messiah. They believe that King David is a “type” of the Messiah. He is regarded as the “ideal” king of Israel. The “son of David” is a title for the Messiah. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. Matthew 21:9 The Good shepherd, who is Messiah Yeshua, is going to rule and reign over the nation of Israel, who are likened unto sheep. They were divided into Northern Kingdom and Southern Kingdom. Yeshua, the “Son of David”, will rule and reign over a United kingdom, even as King David ruled over a United kingdom. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
