Hi, I'm Jane. This Is Jaycee.

from The Jane & Jaycee Project Podcast · host The Jane & Jaycee Project

Hi, I’m Jane. And if you can hear a little jingle of tags in the background, that’s Jaycee. My dachshund. She gets equal billing around here, and she’s earned it. I want to tell you why I’m doing this, before you hear anything else from me. A few years ago, I went through something that took more than a marriage with it. I’ll say it plainly, because I don’t believe in softening it for anyone’s comfort but mine: I escaped an abusive marriage. And escaping it took the version of myself I thought I knew right along with it. I had to rebuild something that felt like mine again, slowly, without a map. Nobody hands you one. So every Sunday, I write one true thing from that process. Not the resolved version. Not the version where I’ve figured it all out and I’m here to teach you the five steps. The actual thing. Comparison and grief tangled together. Old voices that still show up uninvited, years later, at the worst times. What it means to be thankful and still aching, in the same breath. People have told me these letters are sobering more than they’re comforting. I think that’s fair. I think it’s also why people keep reading them. And Jaycee is there for every one. Not as a mascot. She doesn’t know what I’m writing about most weeks, but she’s there. Under the desk. On the porch when I need to walk it off. She was there for the hard ones too, the ones I almost didn’t send. If you’re starting over your own way, in whatever season of your life that’s happening, I’d love to have you here. This podcast, and the Sunday Letter it comes from, isn’t going to hand you a fixed version of me. It’s going to be honest instead. I think that’s more useful. There are more of these every week. If you want them landing in your inbox, or in your podcast feed, however you found this, subscribe. It’s free. Jane and Jaycee, of course.
