Today we step directly into an intense political thriller that would be the envy of Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, and John le Carre. In 2 Samuel 15, King David is fleeing for his life after his son, Absalom, launched a sudden rebellion in an attempt to steal the throne. Absalom has taken over the palace, but to completely secure his power, he needs to eliminate his father. In 2 Samuel 17, to determine the best course of action to accomplish is murderous goal, he calls two brilliant young advisors - Ahithophel and Hushai - to his war room to propose their best military options. But as Thomas a Kempis famously wrote in The Imitation of Christ, “Man proposes, but God disposes.”
