🚨 HIGH WIND WARNING - New York Weather 3/15 - Morning
from The New York Weather Podcast
Good morning. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. Here's the story for the week ahead, while it's a tale of two seasons. Today offers one last calm, cool afternoon, but a powerful storm is taking shape to our southwest. You'll want to enjoy the quiet morning, because things get wild tonight. Step outside and you'll feel it's currently 39 degrees under gray skies. High temperatures today will range from 46 in Albany to 52 in New York City and Buffalo. The breeze is light from the southeast. As the sun sets. But the calm is deceptive, a strong warm front lifts north tonight. Rain arrives after midnight, it becomes widespread by dawn. Winds pick up dramatically, gusting over 40 miles an hour along the coast. Monday brings the full force of spring, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely. Temperatures surge into the 60s in the Capital Region, new York City hits 60 degrees. That's well above normal for mid-March. The drama peaks Monday evening, a strong cold front sweeps through. Watch for damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours. The rain could mix with wet snow north and west of Albany as temperatures crash. Moving on. Tuesday feels like a different world, highs drop to the 30s and 40s. Strong northwest winds usher in a much colder air mass, while lake effect snow showers develop across Western and Central New York. The rest of the week looks quieter but cool, wednesday features sunshine with highs in the upper 30s. We slowly moderate back toward the 50s by Friday. See you this afternoon.
