Highsmith’s Absence Sparks Contract Questions

Alex Highsmith’s absence from minicamp—just days after the Steelers locked up rising star Nick Herbig—has fans buzzing. Highsmith, a key third-round steal and reliable edge rusher opposite T.J. Watt, missed two straight days amid illness, sparking speculation about a looming contract or trade. With Herbig’s extension signaling the team’s commitment to depth, Highsmith’s sudden sideline time feels intentional. The optics are undeniable: a top defender sidelined as the team secures its next big free agent. The Steelers’ next move could be the biggest story of minicamp.
