Highway 16 construction, the short timing for La Crosse’s new mayor to take over, campaign finance reform with UW-L’s Chergosky

UW-La Crosse political science professor, Dr. Anthony Chergosky in the WIZM studio for Friday’s La Crosse Talk, discussing the Highway 16 construction, the length of time before La Crosse’s mayors and judges take office and the future chairs of the Democratic and Republican parties in Wisconsin. Began the show with a weird transition from the situation on Highway 16 in La Crosse, where the road is closed southbound traffic and somehow transitioned that into the Senate filibuster. We also talked about the peculiar timing between different offices taking over after an election, with Shaundel Washington-Spivey becoming mayor two weeks after the election, while both Joe Veenstra in La Crosse County and Susan Crawford on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, don’t take over until August. Between that, governors move into office two months after an election and the US president waits 2.5 months before taking over. Lastly, we discussed both the potential for campaign finance and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin losing its chair, Ben Wikler, while the state Republican Party’s chair, Brian Schimming, appears under fire.
