Good Day and Welcome to HBAC #20(0:00 - 32:32) We start off discussing the case of Porcha Woodruff - a black woman in Detroit falsely arrested and accused of robbery and carjacking. Ms. Woodruff is one of a multiplying number of individuals incorrectly identified through the use of facial recognition cameras and associated technology. It took over a month to clear her name.Innocent pregnant woman jailed amid faulty facial recognition trendThis leads into a discussion regarding some of the Beacon’s previous reporting on a new contract signed by the city to work with Flock Security to supply automated plated reader cameras in 11 locations around the city. (link below)We talk through the deployment of the plate reader technology and associated risks. While we all readily acknowledge the two technologies are not the same we discuss their use and effectiveness along with proven abuses and potential concerns. The guys run the full gamut of opinion here and we would, of course, like to hear from you on it in the comments below. Candidate slates of three (representing both Democrats and Republicans) are vying for the two available City Council seats currently held by council persons Vermillion and Marsh.
