Hillsboro School District Weekly Hot News November 24, 2025 - Annual Weather Issue

It’s Thanksgiving week, which means it’s time for our annual ‘weather issue’ of Hot News! This is where we like to remind families about how we make inclement weather decisions and how those decisions are communicated. Our district is very large - spanning 204 miles - and within our boundaries are elevations ranging from 140 feet to more than 1500 feet! That means the weather conditions can vary greatly from one area to another. Our goal is always to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff - whether they are among our 10,000+ bus riders, student drivers, walkers, bike riders, or those transported by parents. Stay warm!Our feature this week is our Community Transition Services program. CTS is a post-high school program housed at the Peter Boscow building that supports students with disabilities who have been part of a life skills class and are 18 to 21 years old. Students are divided into four groups and work with staff to become as independent as possible. They learn about jobs and build skills for future employment opportunities. According to staff member Pam McCann, “It is always exciting to see some of our former students still working in positions they got while finishing up at the Transition program or once they graduated. They are maintaining permanent paid employment and contributing as members of the community using the skills they learned here.” Hot News is produced and emailed to HSD families and staff each week school is in session.
