Himalayan Floods Claim Lives and Tourists | Calgary News

A deadly ice and rock avalanche in Nepal triggered catastrophic flash floods, killing at least eight and leaving 384 tourists missing—including over 100 from India—with citizens from the U.S., U.K., and Malaysia also unaccounted for. The disaster, centered in Rasuwa district, mirrors a similar flood from last August caused by a glacial lake burst in Tibet. Experts blame a glacier avalanche in the Lhende Khola River, warning that rapid Himalayan warming is accelerating extreme weather events and melting glaciers, making early warning systems more critical than ever.
