Himalayan Floods Threaten More Lives | Calgary News

Catastrophic flash floods have struck Nepal and China, killing over 500 and leaving more than 1,500 missing as rescuers battle thick mud and time. A newly formed Himalayan lake, born from a glacier collapse, now threatens to overflow, forcing temporary halts in rescue operations. Survivors describe the deluge as a “tsunami,” while families mourn multiple lost relatives. In Nepal, the army races to save over 100 trapped at a hydropower plant, and Chinese officials brace for dam bursts. Satellite data reveals a massive rockfall triggered the disaster — and with more flooding looming, the next days are critical for survival and relief.
