Hip-hop | 08.13.23 Vibe Check
from Pull Up Party · host Mixtress Africa Allah
The music was the one thing I could always bank on. It seemed to know exactly what to say. It reflected my emotions and told the stories I couldn't. It both informed and comforted me. Today, it's all about the beat, and the words are meaningless. Even mainstream DJs are uninterested in music. The sound, look, and feel of music are governed by algorithms, corporate objectives, and big business. But they have no idea that hip-hop is a culture formed of struggle, tenacity, and resourcefulness. Out of many, we are one!. We don't need the radio to make our voices louder. We are the raw truth, no matter how much they try to cover it up with misinformation or mute its voice. Our underground no longer exist in the print, the nightlife, mix tapes or block parties. We have streaming platforms, podcast, open mics and community gathering where we continue to slang dope ass music, introduce artists and cross pollinate with different sounds, cultures and music. Hip-hop isn't something you do it is something you live. My first love was and forever will be Hip-hop. Happy 50th to the culture that raised me. #onair http://AfricaAllah.com Become a Super Supporter
