En este capítulo Big Brother and The Holding Company, con Janis Joplin al micro, editan su segundo LP ‘Cheap Thrills’ (Emociones Baratas). El grupo quería llamarlo ‘Sex, Dope and Cheap Thrills’ (Sexo, Drogas y Emociones Baratas), pero la casa de discos, ejerciendo la auto-censura empresarial, decidió acortarlo. La razón se antoja obvia: no les gustaba el sexo ni las drogas. El disco fue considerado en su país el mejor LP del año 68. Trae algunos de los más jondos clásicos de Janis Joplin, que se consolida como el elemento central del grupo. Y después de ‘Cheap Thrills’ no hubo más discos de Big Brother and The Holding Company con Janis Joplin. A final de año la cantante dejó el grupo e inició su carrera en solitario. Grateful Dead publican su segundo LP ‘Anthem of the Sun’. Lo grabaron en varios estudios y combinaron estas grabaciones con mucho material extraído de grabaciones en vivo. Especialmente del Valantine’s Dance del 14 de febrero del 68 en el Carousel Ballroom, gestionado por Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane y Quicksilver Messenger Service. Cuando salió el disco el Carousel Ballroom ya era de Bill Graham que lo había convertido en el Fillmore West.
