from The Gale Hill Radio Hour · host Kate Jones

History, art and a Chesapeake Bay blue crab come together to create engaging stories about the people and events that shaped the United States into what it is today.Cartoonist and historian Bentley Boyd created his character Chester the crab as a way to explain Earth Day to readers of the daily newspaper in Williamsburg, Va. Chester evolved into the narrator of stories geared toward fifth-graders to help them learn U.S. history to meet state requirements. From there, Bentley spun him off into Chester Comix, now celebrating its 20th year with 36 books and counting.Bentley combines knowledge, skill and humor to tell tales from U.S. history in a way that's both fun and educational for audiences from fifth grade to adulthood. To learn more, especially why it's important for Americans to know the history of their country, please listen to the episode and check out Bentley's website.I purchased four of his printed books on Amazon and a digital book on his app, which is available for iPhones and iPad.
