He's partly native american himself from he's dad side, but grew up in an ashram called Siddha yoga in New York, founded by guru Baba Muktananda, learning about yoga, meditation and vedic gods. Later he studied anthropology, the study of what makes us human. Today he has profound knowledge around our human history, geology, religion and indigenous traditions.
