History teaching in our schools: manufacturing identity

Is it possible to teach history at school without its jingoistic overtones and nation affirming narrative? Is there a point in teaching children with Muslim or Caribbean backgrounds about Tudor England or Roman Britain? Why the school's curriculum is so obsessed with Nazism but avoids talking about imperial Britain? How is history taught in New Zealand or Latin America?
