Hollywood Wash - TWB31

from Talking With Burritos · host JJ, Chris, and Adam

Hollywood is a wash, washed up, and washed out. Since the golden age of film, Hollywood has been controlled by popularity and who can make studios the most money. So why all the hubbub about actors outside of the race of white not being honored at an event that has shown bias in the past and not exactly pertaining to race. This is all about money. If you have a bankable actor, studios will put forth money to support that person during the promotional phase of the Oscars. They petition by placing ads in Hollywood periodicals and financing every means to help propagandize their product. Also, factor in the fact that most members of the Oscar judgment panel are Hollywood established and therefore are mostly Caucasian -- this does create bias. But What About The Art... Isn't it the intention of the Academy to focus on the art of filmmaker and in that sense does it seem somewhat wrong to demonize them for judge what is considered art good enough to be honored as the best of the year. Now think about what I just wrote. Doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth? It does in mine because what we seek every year with this and other awards shows is gratification of what?... Art or the individual (s).
