I love you Spider-Man. It's two different experiences between end-game and Spider-Man. What are you gonna do in this underworld? If I was a ginger, then I started feeling sad.
Oh crap, I'm on the moon. Vipity-bopity. I can't breathe. No sense of what is real.
What is fake. Stop making everyone else hate you. Felt more like a scarecrow experience. Welcome back everyone for another episode of Pain and Earring.
We are back off of a high hiatus. I know we take a lot of these, but we really don't care. We do care. Dang, that's just not a bite.
Fuck you guys. Fuck you. No, it's more like we care more about our sanity and our children and our families. Our lives.
Our lives. Fuck. We do love you all and I have put in the diligence of listening. Because we still get downloads, even though we're not putting out new content.
We're still getting down with our lives. We just hope your lives are sometimes the two days are, so we're not the only ones. Yeah, that's true. You can be the limit, that's fine too.
That's okay. That's cool. I'm one of your hosts, Danny. We also have.
Colton. And five months later, I'm still not doing this shit. Okay, that's fine. His name is Jason.
Wait, we don't do that anymore? No, no, no, no. Jason never introduced himself. Why don't you just introduce yourself the way that people like you introduced yourself?
Vipity-bopity. There you go. Okay. That's not the answer.
I feel like I don't know you guys anymore. He's the vipity-bopity. Look. Well, again, I'm one of your hosts, Danny.
And if my voice sounds different today, that's simply because I went to go watch, in the States, a soccer game last night, a European football game, Arsenal, which is my team versus Bayern Munich. And I cheered so loudly that my voice was practically gone. So I had tons of fun, but please pardon the voice. Well, again, welcome back.
We are now on a schedule to record. So we're going to be pumping out some more episodes. We're also really excited about that. Just want to let you all know as well, we are on the Little Film Media Podcast Network with other shows such as Gamer Head's Podcast, The Well Red Mage Podcast, Podcast, and Cake Bites.

The Well Red Mage is more of an analytical look at video games. And the industry, Cake Bites is more of a journalistic view of the gamer nerd world.
So she goes- Those are viewpoints for game. Right? Well, I mean, come on, you're a gamer, dude. Yeah.
Yeah. Tune in. Tune in. Tune in.
So those are all people on the Little Film Media Podcast Network. It is growing. We're really excited right now. We are sponsored by Buzzsprout.
So if you are looking for a great podcast hosting site network, go to Buzzsprout. They're awesome over there. Very customer friendly. Great rates.
Actually, a couple of buddies of mine just popped over from there from another company. I'm not going to throw shade out of the company, but they did just hop over to Buzzsprout. And they're actually really enjoying it right now. So without further ado, because we have been on hiatus for a long time, let's get right into the news.
Jason, can you give us a new sound? I don't know. I don't know. What are you about to do like the McDonalds?
I was like, but I thought you were supposed to do like- I thought you were supposed to do like- I thought you were supposed to do like- Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh- The ESPN notification. That one better. At first, it was going to be like, what was in my head as like a Street Fighter II when like a new challenger comes in. Oh, yeah.
That's pretty good. And then I was like, no, that's not really news. I thought you were going to do like- Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep. Does anyone honking?
That's not really- That's more school, more school, more school. Coming over the reed- Coming over the wires right now, we have news that hit us. Coming under the attack. Attack the allies.
It's going to be on the reed. Battle for the ages. It's a world war. It's a great war part two.
Or we could be like just like that. We all about it. Yeah. Read your papers.
Read your papers here. On the corner. Okay. So first order of business is- I don't know where Jason.
You can go a little bit more detail on this, but I don't know where. Robert Kirkman decided to just end the Walking Dead. Please expound upon this. When you were talking about the other day.
Did he have this premeditated or he's like, no, I'm kind of done. And so he decided- So in the back of the issue, he has one of the few, you know, kind of books out there, one of these creator owned books that have like letters from the readers in the back still. And he ends each issue with kind of like a recap of like, I knew you guys didn't see that one coming. I'm really sad how to happen.
So at the end of the final issue, he goes on to tell everybody, essentially that- Because it ended on issue one and three, but they had solicited and diamond previews and stuff for issues beyond this. And he said how those were all a prank, like just to throw people off the fence. What a prank. Whoa.
Yeah. That's why I laugh and you were like, bitch, you didn't see that one coming. It's over. And so then he said in the back that when it- That he felt like throughout the series, the stakes were always so high.
Like, character guts just happened. They're always a surprise. They weren't telegraphed. It was just like boom, this person's dead.
So he said he felt like a series itself had to go out in the same way. And then- Makes sense. He said that he always knew like what he wanted the end game to be, and that he reached a point like a couple years ago at this point, where he was like, oh, wow, if I keep writing up this pace, I'm going to end it before- I think he said he always envisioned getting to issue 300. And then he finally realized like, I'm already at this point where I could wrap it up far before that.
That's how much story I got. And if I were to extend it out to issue 300, I'd just be like fucking spinning my wheels, doing bullshit, red watering down the story. He keeps on being stuff going for so long. Yeah.
So he said essentially he just knew like let's end it on a high note, let's end it while the story and the love is still strong, rather than letting it run the risk of overstating it's welcome. And so there it was. How far did you read into the comic? I personally really followed the comics all the way through the ending of the prison story arc.
That was welcome. And in the comics, I want to say that was somewhere in the 60s or 70s. And then after that, every now and again, I would check in and kind of, you know, skim through stuff and see what's happening. But the TV show was also out.
And the TV show for me personally just didn't do it for me. So I think I was like that part of my nature. That's like, Robell, yes, where everyone is like, I love Walking Dead. I'm a super fan of the every of the comics.
No, I watch a TV show. Well, fuck it all. I don't care. Oh, I'm tense.
I didn't read any of the comics. Sorry, man. Nah, it's OK. I didn't finish the show.
I got really bad. Yeah, I only got to season three. And I was like, no, yeah, I screwed this. I didn't finish the Negan stuff.
I watched the first season of Negan. I was like, well, this isn't good. You got to win Negan. I didn't get through the governor.
That was really hard to do. I did it really painfully. You know what? None of the season after season one of that could actually hurt.
I actually like season two when it slows down. It hurts a lot. Yeah, well, because it slows down and it gets more into like, the repercussions of what happened because Rick was in a coma. So it was kind of tying up some loose ends that part one talked about, when that part one season one talked about.
So I didn't mind it. But then season three happened and I was like, this is just got off. Yeah, and the characters were super inconsistent, whether you like them or not. It was like, I like the idea of you hate this character.
And then suddenly I like this character or vice versa. You like this character and then suddenly you hate this character. But when every season you're like, wow, Rick's cool. Wow, Rick's not cool.
Wow, Rick's cool again. Okay, now Rick's not cool again. Yeah. Okay, this is stupid.
Yeah, I can feel that. And then one when Rick was cool, his son was a dickhead. And then when his son was being cool, Rick was then crazy. And you're like, this isn't fun.
Why can't they both be cool at the same time and do cool like Father's Son things together? Both kill zombies and be cool together. And then now it doesn't work that way. I'm just not fun to watch.
I get it. I get that. Yeah. Jay, are you happy that ended the way?
You were a fan from the beginning when it comes to the comic. But then you left as an OG. Yeah, I kind of like came back to read the last few issues. And I think it ended in a way that was appropriate.
Like there's only too many, there's only so many ways that it could have gone, you know? And I think all things considered, it ended on a pretty good note. I think definitely didn't go out with like some enormous like bang. It kind of ended just on like a wow.
And that's just how life goes on. Hmm. So I can see that because what you're going to do in the zombie world, you know, you're just kind of like, we're just going to be living day by day with zombies now. Yeah, it wasn't like just minor spoilers.
I mean, I guess that's kind of a major spoiler. But I'm just throwing out that. I don't care. Okay.
30 seconds forward. 30 seconds forward. Boom. Spoiler.
So, it was spoily. Essentially, they never find like a cure for the virus or even the cause of the zombie outbreak. It's not like they have like some amazing like final stand against all evil and they manage to whatever. It's really has a lot of unanswered questions in the sense of that.
But it just gives you a satisfying conclusion more so in fast forwarding, taking a time leap and then kind of showing you where people are 10 years in the future. And that was kind of cool. So did they just learn to, wait, so okay. 10 years, huh?
So they just learned to cope alongside, not to cope, to live alongside the zombies. I wouldn't say live alongside. Like how does that like 10 years later stay on your side? Right.
Exactly. Like how does that how does that work in the sense of like, it's not just if it's not that you get big because in all zombie lore, you get bit then you turn into a zombie. This one is when you die period. If you don't, they already have the virus.
You already have the virus and then you turn into a zombie. Yeah. So he doesn't have any loose ends or he just turned, he only ties up loose ends when it comes to characters themselves and where they end up. Like he ended up on a hilltop somewhere in a cabin.
On a hilltop. Yeah. Somewhere. So essentially during like the last main story arc, they find a place, because you know, they kind of like hopped around from one safety zone to the next and then it became unsafe and I had to move on.
So the last place they go to is known as the Commonwealth. And the Commonwealth was basically a place where there was still people, enough people who had skills, like they had... Bose-de-schills? Bose-de-schills.
They had like dudes who were able to engineer to manufacture, basically like zombie proof riot suits. So it was like helmets that are like, have like their necks protected and like everything protected all the way through. So they were able to go around eliminating zombies without fear of being bitten. And then they had carved out through barriers, like a large chunk of lands that they were able to cleanse.
And then slowly you find out they just kept expanding expanding, expanding its perimeter. Two or only five, four or ten years, the world has restored almost to like a state of the Wild West era. Oh, okay. Wild West era.
And you find out that like now walkers are so rare that someone had a like traveling circus like walkers show, like they're like on a back of a horse carriage. There's like bars and they're trapped in there like, come see the zombies. It's all come on. It just became like a Stone Age survival.
A little bit, not Stone Age. It's literally like a landmark. It was like literally American Wild West. Like they were laying down railroad tracks.
Yeah, it was, yeah, it was, but yeah, so I just went way back to where I started over from quite a while. Yeah, yeah. So it became like literally there's a scene in the end where they're like re laying down new railroad tracks and stuff to try and establish like infrastructure again. I guess that's pretty cool.
I can do that. I can do that. I can do that. I can do that.
I feel like I did. I feel like I did. Okay, so next time. What do you thought on that?
Wait, what? Just, just that. So we want to give opinions, right? Jason, like, your just what you heard about it?
What do you think? I think it's fine to go with it. Why not in the show like that right now? Just randomly.
Just randomly. Just randomly. Just kidding. We're in episode one of season nine and that's the last episode we're going to run.
They just play that episode at Comic Con this weekend. And I'd say no, they should. Oh yeah. Like, sorry.
People were like, oh my gosh. What's going to be the next season? Why's going to happen? And then at Comic Con they just released this last episode.
The other thing in the show, I saw, I don't know if you saw this part. What was that place where they go and they end up like they think it's a safe haven, but they're a bunch of cannibals. I get to eat them. Tore, Terence, Tore, some of the tea.
Yeah. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah. Yeah.
And Carol shows up and just saves all of them in one episode. And I was like, best episode of all time because I was like, here's a threat. We didn't deal on this threat the entire season. Carol just showed up like a badass, killed everyone and saved us all.
Let's move on. I was like, best episode of the entire series. Yeah, I saw this tweet the other day that was because AMC came out and was like, after the finale of the comic series came out. And I was like, don't worry, viewers can expect to see The Walking Dead on AMC for years and years to come.
It's all in the works. And so on the street was like, yeah, much to the dismay of Walking Dead fans. So I just think that, yeah, it's kind of over-seen as welcome. How they have like plans to make like three written crimes to spin off movies and.
Do they really? Yeah. Wait, they still do? Yeah.
To this day? Yeah. Oh god, make it stop. Let it die.
This is on the show. Yeah, this is on the show. They can't let it die. Ah ha.
So moving on. It'll be animating itself. Moving on. Another piece of news that just came out this past week at ComicCon is that one of Jason's favorite directors, Tycho YTT, has delayed the Akira movie in order to move forward with writing, producing, and directing for for.
Now, Colton, you are huge fan of Akira. Really big game. Were you excited to see that they were going to make a movie out of this? You didn't want them to make a movie out of that at all?
No. Jason, did you watch Akira? Yeah. Did you like it too?
Or no? Akira, for me, when I watched it, we're talking over 20 years ago. Wow, really? Yeah.
Like, a month ago. Not for the first time. No, I've ever watched it multiple times. No, but how old were you when you watched it for the first time?
Me? Yeah. Must have been like 12 or 11. So are you a fan of Tycho YTT?
Like, who did the Ragnarok? That's it. Well, no, he's also done other movies like The Will There Beeple. I'm not saying that she did a lot of movies.
I don't really know. OK, so why were you hesitant for Akira in the movie? Because any animated film, the live action movies, never good, ever. Well, no, the tension ones were actually pre-dentured.
Well, those are made in Japan by Japanese. Oh, OK. Anything that's been adopted by Western directors and filmmakers. So for instance, Ghost in the Shell.
Ghost in the Shell. It honestly wasn't terrible, but it was just like not good. Yeah. It was one of those.
Because it's Ghost in the Shell, it wasn't good. Right. You know what I mean? One of those things.
Exactly. It was a film. You're like, OK, that was cool. But that's it.
If you go expecting Ghost in the Shell things, it's like they just took Ghost in the Shell stuff and just slapped it over like an action movie. And you're just like, I guess that's essentially what you're going to get anyways. Then that's the problem. That's only what you're ever going to get.
Because you can't capture the things in anime, too. It just doesn't work. And the Netflix read, did a live action of Death Note. And it was like, it's taking place in Portland, Oregon.
Starring. Yeah. And it was just like they totally changed. My mom was shaking the octave was supposed to be Neo New York or something like that.
Thanks for allowing me. I was like, oh geez. They're like, why do you have to change those things? They also did a live action of the Full Metal Alchemist.
But again, Japanese directors, Japanese actors. You said Netflix released. No, but it was so. The production company was a Japanese.
The difference is, to me, when it's Western filmmakers with Western actors making it for Western audiences, but the source material was anime, it pretty much always turns out shit. When we're seeing when it comes to Full Metal Alchemist, what was the other one? You mentioned Kenshin. They have another one that's on Netflix.
Attack on Titans was Japanese, too, right? Yeah. They understand the source material in a way that is, I mean, obviously they're not translating also the cultural aspects. That's their own culture.
So they understand how to make a leap in a better way, I think. Yeah. From comic to film. Right.
And so I think even one of my favorite Japanese actors was in the Blade of the Immortal live action that they did recently. And so I think those usually turn out pretty cool. They're not perfect, but they're pretty cool. Also, isn't Leonardo the one like half directing, or was it helping with it, too?
Leonardo. He has the rights, too. He owns the rights to the whole thing. Leonardo Caprio?
Yeah. I'm pretty sure he owns the script or something. Something like that. Because I found out a few really bizarre facts.
So episode one of Appinoneering, I was talking about my personal favorite. You remember that? Anime, Robotech, the Japanese on this lacrosse. Wow, wow.
Holy cow. Believe it or not. Oh, wait. Told him to acquire owns the rights to that.
Told him to acquire owns the rights to that. And you're like, what the fuck? Yeah. I was like, I need to have the Caprios.
He owns the rights to the Okita. I'm looking up right now. Keep going, Jay. Oh, just that.
Like, it's kind of bizarre, if you think who owns the rights to some of these? Yeah. The only saving grace to the Okita thing I read, which I thought was interesting, was they weren't just going to straight copy the film and be like, let's just remake that. They were pulling from the manga.
So they were pulling a different story. Or I guess it's a different section of the manga. I don't know if they were going to start from the beginning over the story. Because the movie, the animated film, actually takes place.
Not really in the middle, but pretty close to the middle of the whole manga. It's not even a manga that I could six volumes long. Eight volumes? Six or eight.
I almost have them all. I don't know. Yeah, no. Leonardo Capro is producing it.
But Warner Brothers owns the rights to it. So Leonardo is the producer. He's producing it. Oh, that means he won't do much, though.
That's not bad. It depends on how much involvement he wants to be part of it. But so Jay, real quick, so Colton, you're in and you don't want to because of the track record that Jason so pointed out how Western production companies can't really do that. It just seems like they take an idea and put it over a very standard action film.
And it's like, I get it. I'm going to make your money. Yeah. So Jason, it's like you can't move that over.
You can't take something in anime portrays and then put it onto a live actual film. It doesn't work. I can't even explain why it doesn't work. Well, I mean, even like, I mean, look at the Pokemon, the second feature movie.
Yes. But I'd like to say that was a little different. I don't know. It seems I think that's a way easier audience to appease than an Oculus film.
Because not only were adults growing up with Pokemon going like, dude, I get to see live Pokemon, then kids are also going to eat that shit up all day. Kids aren't going to go eat up like you know, they're not going to know or care. It's going to be the people who were watching and reading the manga. So the only ones are going to be like, wow.
And then you're going to get the standard movie goer who goes, wow, look at an action film. And then you're going to disappoint half of these people because the people who are going because of their love for the actual anime franchise. Jay, what are your thoughts? Because you like take up?
Yeah, I mean, I think it's, I at least appreciate that if they're going to get a director, he's not an American director. I appreciate that he I think has a really good understanding of story. I it's hard for me to envision because he has really, I think heartfelt stories that he tells, but they're not. They're very just infused with that like New Zealand comedy.
So if you get picture like flight of the Concordes and then with Taeko, we have the humor that he brought to Thor Ragnarok for the will of your people. So it's so different, but everything I've ever seen from him has been more comedy. So trying to picture him doing something like Akira just feels so like no comedy. Right.
I mean, it's got very it's got some comedic things in the manga and the movie as far as like Japanese humor goes. Yeah. There's dry or like even I don't want to see Raunchy, but almost like wrong, but funny the lap at kind of, you know, you know, so it's like I can at least when you take something like Thor Ragnarok and the fact that he just like I feel like fully leaned into these like really wild neon set pieces, I can appreciate that visually. Yeah, I was going to say the visuals would blend in very well.
Yeah, like visually, I think he's he's got a good sense for being willing to break out of the mold to what is the New York. Right. But yeah, but I mean, the guy's not done me wrong so far. So even though I don't see what he would bring to this, what his vision would be, I, you know, you have a little bit of caution because Hollywood has a very bad track record, but it's I could I could be curious.
I'll see it. I mean, I'll see. I'm going to have an Oculus shrine. I've got kind of those figurine addresses and what's happening.
I got a pop theory that's me wearing the jacket. I've got the original art poster from the original movie being released. I got everything. I love it.
Like every end of it. I know you were like that big of a fan of it. Oh, yeah. I have a little shrine of like all my Oculus stuff.
Nice. I have like the metal metal box DVD special edition when it came out. He dresses them for Halloween. I'm going to go see it and just cross my fingers and my toes.
Yeah. Okay. I haven't seen I trust Tyka because again, the things I have seen him in. I haven't minded, but from the stories I hear of what Akira needs.
I don't know if that fits his style of directing kind of thing. So here's hoping. Okay. So next just two points and we're just going to get your all's opinions on these relatively quickly.
Zack Snyder is going to direct army of the dead. Colton, are you excited about this or no? Or do you not care? That's something you just really don't care about.
Army of the dead. Oh, okay. All that franchise. I was thinking army of darkness for some reason.
Yeah, no, no, no. Zack Snyder? Yeah. So fresh off of a fresh off like the last thing that he did was BBS and started.
We're going to get a lot of slow motion zombies. A lot of slow motion zombies and these weird palettes in the background. Yeah. In the in the in the moment zombie killing right.
I don't know. Zombie's up is pretty played out, but I mean it's kind of cool. I guess I'll have to see what it looks like. Yeah.
Zack Snyder hasn't really been on my plus side. Yeah. So it's it's more like Oh, like Zack Snyder is doing a zombie movie. Yeah.
Yeah. Just like look another Star Wars is coming out. Yeah. Okay.
I are using zombie fan at all. I mean, I do like I said, I was into the walking dead for a long time. Last of us, I adore actually enjoy well told zombie stories. I'm not at all a Zack Snyder fan.
I think that this just sounds like a Zack Snyder wink fest. Does Zack Snyder choose Zack Snyder? Like so I'm not interested, but you know, whatever. Okay, this next one I'm like super super I'm on Jason's train to like I don't mind for zombie stories, but I'm not on that.
I'm not on Zack's train fest, whatever. So this next one I'm really excited about, but Cobra Kai season three has started filming already. I'm also excited. Dude Cobra Kai and they're going to go to a Japan Jason.
I mean, you be in another Jason PD, having tried to get Jason to watch Cobra Kai. It's super good. I was I was thoroughly shocked on how good it was. It's really finally good though, because it's like the only two actors taking it seriously.
The two original guys. Yeah. No, no, everyone's taking seriously, but we laugh at the two original guys because we saw them as kids and now they're still doing it now. Yeah, it's like so funny.
Well, yeah, I mean, I guess the other actors are serious because it's their acting job. Right. I mean, is those two doing it? You're like, Oh my God, I like to grow up.
It's like so funny. But the thing is like there are shows and there are movies that don't take itself too seriously. Okay. This takes itself seriously to the utmost degree and we don't care.
Like let's like the secret. Are you going to watch it Jason? I don't care if you spoil it. Okay.
So in season two, there are secret moves on the dance. Oh, on the board. Yeah, on the board. And they're all like what?
Glet. I was just like this is the most. Yeah. And that's the easiest, the cheesiest, stupidest thing I've seen, but it's so amazing.
I get them all. That's right. Look away because, you know what, it's eating into my childhood. It's so good.
And like the drama is just so corny, but so good. Right. And I guess I'm so eager to see, oh, not his forgot his name, Johnny, Johnny Blondie. Yeah, I'm excited to see him like develop into like his karate into a good karate.
Yeah, because it's just a different karate because it's only not gonna change his ways, but I think my prediction is obviously they're gonna join forces. Oh, yeah. I know that from episode one, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
They're gonna join forces to take down as deep as the coolest as I think, not only the joint forces. I think that they're gonna combine their teaching methods and it's gonna be one karate. Well, that's why it's like eating egg. So it's gonna be like the calm and the angry is gonna be like one thing.
It's gonna be odd dude. Yeah Like that's me great kind of like what we're gonna be talking about later on the episode like far from home You know out of their elements, but I think it's gonna be like Johnny and Daniel on vacation to like Japan and because that's why they started Filming season greens and Japan. Yeah, I just wonder what they're gonna leave up with what's his face in the hospital right now and stuff, you know? They gotta kind of cap it.
He's just like three months later and he's just like coming back on like such a big deal I can't imagine you just say three months later and Johnny's super pissed it Daniel super pissed at Johnny right now for all that. So it's like you don't just start the episode We're gonna pick guys, you know, I think you got it least the first two episodes You got to cap that and then move on for something together right, but it's also super bomb that hockey the dick bag I mean, I saw it coming. Yeah, but it was it would have been super cool If you could have been like you know what I should not be this dick bag and he could have like left Cobra Kai It sure let the girl from be a dick who cares. Yeah, even though she was clearly Which girlfriend though the evil Cobra Kai one the dick girl.
Oh, oh Girl second girl. She's a she's eight. Yeah, she's back. Yeah, and for a while there was like a battle of who's hotter I wasn't sure Look so preppy.
I was like, but there's no way she's hotter and the other girls like do she likes such a badass He's like making herself look hot, but then the whole like at the end of the school year fight The other chick was like so much hotter. I was like, you know what? Yeah, dude I like you said like end of the school year fight the fights in general like the choreography is actually super good. Yeah, it's shocking We good this guy in Galaxy.
Yeah, like even when even when LaRusso even when LaRusso and freaking Johnny go at it They didn't really go at it They went at it when they were in Johnny's apartment member would because LaRusso's daughter was It wasn't like a 10 minute fight was more shoving than fighting It was a couple immediately hands-grown, but then we're just throwing each other around dude when you're in your like late 50s No, I know I wanted to see like, you know the kung fu stuff coming out, but I get sorry karate But it's a certain sect of it. Okay, so we're really excited about Cobra Kai season 3 Yeah, dude, I'm actually really excited to show my kid about it So like me as like a person review I absolutely loved it and me as a dad I'm like a stoked review to show my kid It was a 10 out of 10 for me in the first two season together I love the whole thing it was I watched them both for free because I only did my one description Yeah, then I've also made my new email for when season three comes out I'm gonna do my other free subscription Because I'm not paying for YouTube red Have you guys seen that that gift and the caption says when you're trying to fool Netflix for free subscription And it's that video of Dwight in the office and he has a costume for everyone in the office He like keeps looking at the camera Yeah, he's like he's Phyllis and then he's Ryan and he's I'm gonna do that. So I actually got me drinking Coors banquet dude, the office. Oh Yeah, so one day I was like, oh man, I got a fork I'm gonna pick up a six pack beer and go out for freaking Cobra Kai And then I went into the liquor store and walk off the fridge section thinking around and I fell with little grenade bottles like a little Yeah, oh shit.
I'm about to buy some coors banquet They're actually not bad. I do like or do bad cool. Okay real quick We're gonna go into a section called beef of the week And there's a lot of beef that's been coming around been circulating the web sphere and Jason and I were actually talking about it Like two weeks ago. We're having good laughs about it We said if we recorded an episode we have to talk about this how there's no more ginger's on television anymore Okay, you can't put that before this.
I know what you're talking about No, Jason, you explain yeah, can you explain like how the internet started picking this up and it started getting going everywhere? Alright, so going at least in my memory one of my earliest examples of this phenomena where it had its roots not in the ginger sense but in the original or the very first Thor Heindel was cast as Ytas Elba and The fandom lost its shit saying in order to keep it accurate Thor is a you know, Norwegian or whatever like Norse mythology as a Norse mythology so Heindel should be a white dude like you can't cast a black man as This character and over time there were other Examples of this popping up where it was like, you know, for instance when I mean the most recent is Zendaya Right. Yeah, like that's where it that was the pinnacle of it That's why it was a huge ones and they got cast as MJ in the Spider-Man reboots and that was it was happening We're knocking off the red head Initially You know when you look at it in the bigger picture when you think about some of this it's like hey If you're talking about fictional characters Think about it I'm sorry, I didn't know what they were talking about at first going into the subject and now it Holy crap My phone is running because I'm laughing so hard Yeah, so here's what I'm gonna show you now as you're looking at this you could just see it's like going left to right Okay Who's the first picture That first picture dude, that's that's Mary Mary Jane. Yeah from the first Spider-Man.
Yeah, so Mary Jane is now Zendaya. Oh, it's I see how it's working now It's like panning from right left is changing. Yeah, okay. Yeah, we got the Bali West and they took her jobs, dude Okay, there you go.
I didn't know the only West ones because I didn't watch that Yeah, so Wally West and then and then but also Irish West yeah, and they got what's her face between Titans? Yeah, oh yeah, I fire fire fire. Yeah, and like to me. That's one of those ones along with time.
No, they took Our job to start first. We take the cases in isolation What's hard is like star fires literally supposed to be a fucking alien like so it's hard to be like cuz if you look and rewind And Twitter history and people lost their shit when she was cast as a black woman because they're like oh hello She's you can't make her black. She's a beautiful red head But she can't red hair in the TV show so right now she always had red hair in the TV show. Yeah, and they gave this Freckles you dick back But it's just hilarious cuz it's like hello dude like she's an alien like there's no literally like orange skin green eyed Six foot goddesses with red hair walking the earth like but damn if we can make Iron Man fly on screen We can make starfire look like that and so anyways But then once this meme came out and once like I saw the bigger picture So like just in this particular meme we see and I didn't realize the full scope of how many ginger characters So Mary Jane we have replaced with Zendaya Irish West I don't know the actress's name but Irish West was also replaced by a very attractive black actress Annie was replaced She is pretty um Annie was replaced by a young black girl Wally West by handsome black dude starfire We already talked about a little mermaid we already talked about but just like once I son she's a child Once they all like got turned up on the screen I was like damn that's a lot of characters of I was a ginger then I started and don't tell me there's no correlation with Netflix's number one show orange is the new black I am seeing it And then and then conspiracy theory Meghan Markle a black woman had to go ruin I'm just kidding.
She's beautiful But go ruin the royal bloodline of ginger Prince. Oh That kid's I can turn out ginger. Hey, have no ginger babies in real in our little in our L in real life right Prince Henry Harry yeah, he's just married Megan Markle. Oh Right see that's what they're doing guys do they're taking a Ginger's Wow, that's insane.
I mean I can window care So I understand why they might care yeah So now they're gonna start casting a ton of ginger people over characters who are originally are black That's what one guy did one guy. He made a video and he's all like he was a video where he Makes de-burkel with some red head. No, that's funny. That's funny.
He's all like yeah We could do that and he was having an argument with himself pertain to take both sides of the argument the freshmen So red hair, right? So he's all like no you can't do that why he's like dude. They'll make shaft white Yeah, that's my chef white and they're like no no no So Yeah, so I mean this is a little even going on for forever Denzel Washington played Frank Sinatra's character in the remake of the mentoring candidate Bennett Marco like the recasting of from one race to another Has happened freakin Johnny storm like I'll be Jordan. I'll be Jordan.
I was casting in there men in black The traditional comp it was too white dudes and then you know what's like this is always been called as Morales My was no my was the brand-new friend. I'm like Clark Duncan for the kingpin, you know like oh yeah Super cool. Anyways. Yeah, Harvey Dent's in Batman since the 80s like Harvey Dent was a white dude And then he played by black man in Tim Burton's Batman series.
Yeah, Harvey Dent was played by Lando Calarissium, but he wasn't two-face No, I said Harvey Dent I didn't know he existed Although that cartoon version also looks kind of like black man my biggest piss off about this My this is where I this is me often is not for any side of the coin It's for I just want to see it yourself as double seven I see what you did there do the two-facing and the side of the coin dude nice I don't know you did it shut up. I don't even know I wanted to see you just all that double seven Yeah, I really do I think you'd be a great superman black Superman black Superman Hobbs and shot legal Hobbs and show Jason's statement is just like his from the very beginning is what he told me is like Do white people need to get over it ginger's have a free pass they get a hop pass for now. Yeah for now, but literally people When it comes to this thing I see some little kid he comes over from school like mommy so it told me ginger's have no soul And then it's like don't worry son you could watch oh they replaced Wally West never mind Yeah, exactly so that's been happening for a long time and a lot of people been having beef about that And that's not saying I got beef when I said that statement this I'd be like be for the week That's not my big in general people are talking about this You don't mind casting in general as I do you think there's that there is a line when it comes to certain things when it comes to casting at all Hmm like what is there is there a line so it's like yeah people need it over it But is there some point there where people can be like okay hold on I think hold on I already kind of talked a little bit about the facts that It is kind of weird when you take some of these like manga and then interpret them for Western film audience And it depends so I mean I'm sorry, but I guess it's not my mind so I say it I think I really thought about I think if it's a story dependent issue then that's the line drawn right so like my example Is a little mermaid one let's face it guys. I'm so sorry to have to say this on the podcast really here, but Mermaids aren't real I don't mean to break anyone's heart, but it's true So therefore we have no idea what their color would be so to cast a black or a mermaid who cares always not depending on that It shouldn't matter right now for I guess I could be my example Even though you could totally change the story to change the ethnicity of the actors But if you were following Neo Tokyo my microphone's falling over Tokyo and going with that then it would be hard to change everyone to white and then everyone hanging out in Neo Tokyo and a biker gang and Dealing with the Japanese government you'd be like well, that's kind of weird You know if the story dependent on the ethnicity of the actors or the characters I mean yeah, then that might be the line drawn you can get away with it I'm sure and people probably complain at times, but who cares yeah, but it's yeah I think that's the line I think if your story really heavily depends on the ethnicity of the actors the characters Then you should try to stick with it if you can't if you can't people also shouldn't complain because like dude It's not the end of the world right seriously cut it out.
Yeah, right yeah, yeah, I agree Yeah, I can't think of any like because I was like what about this not doesn't matter. It has nothing to do with story Yeah, it's not it's not a super big problem with the story Then change what I really want yeah And if you want to make the person different color in the city then change the story to match it And then we have to swallow that pill because I'm not the one writing in the record The film anyways, yeah, I'm paying you'll see it. That's my fault. Don't pay to go see it then if you don't want to see a little mermaid Don't stop making everyone else hit you right Just complaining the other people read it well now no one's gonna like you It's like good job.
You didn't change the actor by complaining although we changed something but so Playing devil's advocate. Okay, the Broadway show Hamilton. It was recast it. That's the one where one dies No Hamilton is like Alexander Hamilton.
Okay, it was it was made in not like a no It was it's a story about early American founding fathers, but they recast all of them for to be lat Latino and black nobody white at all. I think there's like one of you Yeah, but that's again integral to the story. It's trying to write the story was written in such a way by a Yeah, I live in my world Well, ran to himself as Latino and he is writing the story to say like these characters are immigrants Like we can now fast forward a few hundred years and try to say, you know Oh the founding fathers this or that and the other and they were you know But if you look back and see this was all tried to say here's a man of humble means Alexander Hamilton through ambition and whatever rose to the status that At the end of the day like they intentionally cast people of color because they were trying to make a point It's integral to the story right. It's an art piece within our piece.
Yeah, okay. That's what I'm saying That's why I'm thinking of it. Yes, I agree with that same Like if they made a movie there's been plenty movies made with like slaves stuff like that about the whole back back in time I can't think one for some reason I'm a sod name one I've seen about slavery. Yeah, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry Sorry, but right. Oh, glory is great. Actually, right if you made all the slaves for some reason I'm a child white guys and you're like all right you guys have particular slaves and control by the white guys they need to be like No one will be mad, but they'd be like that doesn't make sense. I'm pretty sure a lot of you mad at that Do you think so if they took out?
Oh, I guess much a white people would be mad right? Black's really bad. Yeah, right make them slaves. You know, I mean like that's okay with me I don't know it all depends on the person true, but but I'm saying you can't do that because it's like you're rewriting that kind of story this Important to the story that they were black man, right?
Yeah, okay. Yeah, I agree. That's it But that was just the beef of what everyone's talking about nowadays right is We'll get their heads on the rasses. Yes, okay, so going on to the main topic of the night main topic of the night Hey, I'm the night star wars are we're sorry?
Sorry? Sorry? I'm sorry spider-man far from home. That was a main topic.
I'm dropping my name out two weeks ago And now we've all finally seen it yes, and we're gonna be dropping spoilers in this episode y'all So I'm our apologies if you haven't seen it. We gave enough time for people to watch it Are we starting to spoil it was going right now? We're gonna go right into it's been two weeks. It's been two weeks.
Okay, cool. It's been two weeks now If we do a stranger things after this that's up to you if you want to stay in this room with cuz I'm gonna say Oh, that sucks dude. I know man. I gave you four more Jason was a real stand-up guy earlier about that You just mean a jury gave me four one.
I like you Okay, fireman far from home my initial thoughts continue. I thought was great cool. I really enjoyed it I think it was really fun nice I had some things I didn't like about it, but it didn't mean that it was a bad movie I thoroughly enjoyed it. Oh, there's a time that people in the theater thought I was crazy because I was laughing so damn hard But when they all switched these on the plane We had a funeral and they go do you want to see pictures?
I was having so hard. I was like and that teacher was freaking to me so to show practically like he was freaking alert I love that teacher, but I was laughing so hard in the movie theater. I was laughing so hard in the movie theater But yeah, no, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I like taking Peter out of itself It was actually kind of weird when he goes back to New York at the end of the movie swing around in New York I felt I felt out of place like oh yeah, it was over the other side of the world Yeah, I like how they did what they did with Mysterio. Um, so good the best material of all time Anime anime was really good. No Example is this the anime series Hello, cubes spider-man. Oh crap.
I'm in the water Oh wait, it's Mysterio kids not real. It's not gonna hurt me and then he goes More hollow cubes. Oh crap. I'm on the moon.
I can't breathe I'm sure that was terrifying because the other place looks so real Yeah, but once you realize that the hollow cubes don't do any damage to you. You're just like well now what yeah In this mystery was like holographic cubes that can put a bullet in your head What am I favorite villains in all of him see you? Also Jake freaking jellin how who I did not trust in this role was immaculate it was so good I like you did like fantastic. I think that they made it that he was they were a stark employee Yeah, if you notice he was so silly Great, but here's one thing that okay, and we'll get to this one of the things I was like again I'm trying to weave together a Dungeons and Dragons campaign and it's hard enough keeping the story on track So now I'm like Marvel's trying to do this was like 20 something movies Yeah, but that doesn't mean that I can't spot something like that to me that didn't make sense But I don't it doesn't okay fine the movie was so great But it doesn't make sense to me and I'll probably get into that a little bit later But if you notice a lot of spider-man's movies are chest picking up after Tony shit like the first movie Oh with attack was attacking on Tony Stark layoff all these people okay here comes Peter picking up Tony shit This movie he laid us off right picking up Tony shit.
He called it barf. Yeah Barf I love you, but I do love that they again when you're trying to like weave together a universe I mean being able to like paint Tony Stark as an asshole using established scenes that have already existed in the films I mean that's a brilliant touch. Yeah, just kind of like oh here was Mysterio in the background by the way This was a tough yeah, I said shop watch that they went home and went to that that shot He wrote me he was like dude go watch it and he goes best Mysterio of all time I was like no way and he goes dude holocubes and I was like oh my god And also I was a little bummed out because I was like once we find out it's Mysterio What's he gonna fight dude that drone fight was one of the sickest choreographed fights? I've seen in a while really I thought it was actually relatively weak No, I mean because I everything he was doing with the webs to blow my love it was like it was just really all the stuff He was doing to fight them because how do you fight a drone was really tricky So it was cool seeing all of his little tech ways to like handle the situation Yeah, he did one thing with the car and he did one thing when he like made me a very smart in this movie And I finally got to see a smart Peter Parker Yeah, and that was actually pretty cool because he's also really cocky So we've now gotten both peters out of one guy right finally right so that was cool Jay No, I thought it was like fun as all hell I really enjoyed it To me it was like super solid moving I liked Overall I had more fun as an experience than I did at endgame like endgame had a lot of cool moments We don't but I like spider-man homecoming.
I just had more fun But it's two different experiences between endgame and spider-man I can see how I'm fun and game was fun to me and game was a lot of weight to me Like you're I mean you got a lot on your shoulder there But I mean I didn't have fun watching in game, but I get your point We were like spider-man like dude This is I've got a smile on my face watching this dude swing around and fight drones and yeah And again like I know I'm always I feel like I was the advocate for getting I like and to say yeah Endgame wasn't necessarily meant for you to sit down and like alright popcorn everybody So I obviously enjoyed both movies But I guess what I was trying to say the heart of what I was trying to say when I said that comment was essentially I really appreciated that I think This is okay, and I've even been documented on the podcast years ago saying like I'm fucking sick of Peter Parker I wish it could move on from him I don't care about Tony McGuire and movie reboots and Andrew Garfield and now we're got a new guy and this and that and I feel like this Tom Holland has been like such perfect casting and the writing has been like so amazing to paint us this vision of Peter Parker I like dude. I just want to watch this guy like he's so fun to watch on screen Yeah, and and I think what I was saying to Danny before we talked about in the past as Danny said like oh superhero burnout People aren't gonna care about superheroes. That's right. I thought to jeez and the truth is I think you're wrong But I think they've what I said at the time and this proves my point I feel is I'm a reiterate is that if they were to keep on with their current status that they were going forward throughout all of Everything leading up to endgame They would burn out but we're starting to see that by virtue of this they have perfect casting and they're starting to make genre films So we see that Guardians of the Galaxy is like an ensemble cast Thor was just like a straight action comedy Spider-Man homecoming is very much like just a teenage popcorn blockbuster and it's so damn fun like they're gonna get by in virtue of their perfect execution of the plot and Casting of people who are just like so fucking fun to watch on screen.
Well, that's what Caleb brought up one time He was so stoked that the directors they were getting probably so specific to like the genre that Like the director of dr. Strange had only ever done horror films Yeah, like dr. Strange's gonna be kind of dark and greedy and really magic in weird You're like that's cool Because dr. Strange's magic and kind of a dark and weird story about this dude learning about around that He didn't existed and they got a horror movie got to do it in portrayed or mammo in these dark these dark dudes controlling dark magic That's cool.
Like that's a really good idea. They're getting directors who they think and portrayed in the films Yeah, so that's cool. I don't know how they ended up with James Gunn for God's Galaxy So yeah, I mean if they succeed in it, um, you know more power to them I'm really really stuff, but there's no other Marvel movie that's coming out for the rest of this year The next movie that's coming out is probably good thing. Yeah, probably yeah is the Black Widow prequel Oh, man, I almost don't care for that May 1st Yikes and then Black Panther is slated for February 12th 2020 Except right Mike care because I think task masters task master is supposed to be the villain of her movie I think right is really that's masters though.
That's what I honestly piece of villain. That's why I'll go see it Yeah, I won't see it for her. Yeah, no, I I I thoroughly enjoyed far from home It's a movie that I wouldn't like like I know me as a person and I probably wouldn't like it two three years ago But I kept thinking like why do I like it because it fits in a in a box that I wouldn't like like this literally would be like Put in like if I was moving Put all the context a lot of the things that's happening here in a box for a yard sale like I wouldn't do that But why am I liking it like I kept going through my line my liking this so much is everything that it's because and I was like If they did this any other care if they did this what they're doing to Peter right now and taking him out of New York and making All totally different thing and to change it up some I would not like it But why do I like it and it's because I've seen Peter since we were kid and now they're finally doing something different And I like it because I didn't want to see the same exact thing over and over also They took a villain that's super sucks. Yeah, I know I'm a serious oct.
Oh, yeah, because at least like fucking scarecrow Place with your minds, but there's like legit like drugs Make you afraid of it. Yeah, mysterious you like because I don't beat him because he just got over it because there's no real threat Right, I wasn't able to actually physically destroy anything. Yeah, this one was like actually destroying stuff No, I'm just I'm saying that I didn't think Mysterio was a with a child like Mr. Even back in the day he was a jump I like to I also just like to concept that it was like a team that it took all these special Like that's you pull off this yeah, yeah, yes Yes, sure.
Oh, he's all like thank you toes to was so good. Yeah, that's such a good scene Yeah, I was like this is insane. It's not a lot like a bon villain Yeah, yeah, and then also when the scene was by my first experiences all of the hollow cubes like when he's in the building and like Nick very's not real. Yeah, okay for a second.
It's crazy there there at the beginning of that sequence I was like, okay, so he's okay, so he fell through and he hit something and he turned around you punch something Okay, I get that there was like jumped at him and like just fell into the floor But they did a really good job on the beginning part and they did a really good job of the audience not knowing if this is real We're yeah that or they did a really good job. There were moments in there that was like this feels more like a scarecrow Toxigation then a holograph no there were times I was like like when the like the Glasses all coming. What is happening. Yeah, he's walking on his own like oh my gosh.
What is happening? I was like so wait, he's not I never did he could stand still enough like just don't move just not moving kind of a thing But that's the problem, but no, but he's the drum can be killing you that's the thing that you know was the drums No, no, but they were actually doing damage Yeah, they saw on his thing when they would see destruction of the building I'm talking about when he goes when he first lines out the glass walls and then he whips The drones were destroying shit. No, and he was physically feeling. No not the scene that was the scene when he finds the fire dude No, you're super long remember.
No, I just watched it this morning. He goes and he punches a wall and then he webs Yeah, he grabs the drone. No, he does not grab a drone. He grabs the tractor Oh, yeah, and then he gags it and boom the tractor falls in no Drum was shooting it all the way back to the water in the Venice canals the drones are physically doing shit So people were so I'm not talking about those The glasses falling yes, and you're like just damn still Bullen a piece of glass of land on me killing him because that's a drone shooting you or something you get it I can still hurt you like let me tell you I didn't know whether the image was fake or real and whether it would hurt You were not because it could have like drums have bullets the drones can just destroy But you know, but let me give you this as an example so like a couple weekends back Stacy and I went to do this like VR experience He's drawn to attack me Because it was a Terminator to VR experience and so you put on these like VR goggles You have like a VR machine gun that has tactile feedback so as you're firing it's like And you're feeling it well all you're doing is you're seeing with your eyes and then you just have to have enough feeling So for instance, there's a scene in the game experience where you're supposed to get on this You walk over and you stand in what looks like a like a chopper like lift and as you're standing there All of a sudden they bloop there's fans that you know now like fans are blowing air into you and you look up in the game And so it's VR and it's shocking everything as you look up a chopper is descending And then you feel like it's like lifting you mentally your eyes are seeing that and then feeling the air is enough to trick your fucking brain In the moment to feel like dude, I'm like oh this feels really real so to me I think that if Peter just saw glass falling and it was real enough They could have fucking shot a hole in the cement and just feeling dirt rocks and cement blocks would fuck your brain up enough to think like Oh shit, this is real things happening to me Yeah, like and I'm saying that just based on fucking air and a visual thing made me feel like I was being lifted up into a chopper All you needed was those two senses to activate enough to trick your brain.
So I'm not saying it was bad I'm not saying it was dumb. I just said for a second. It was so it was to the level that is this all visual or is this in his mind? It was visual though the drones were literally This is not like you know like when you're playing Batman, you're like, oh, this isn't real This is all in his brain, right?
This is all in his mind. He's literally just honked in a corner Like shivering but he's running through this in his in his mind. Yeah, so this guy goes just makes you think you're seeing it There's nothing actually happening around you which except in this movie there was things happening around you correct Right, so in my brain when I was watching this movie I was like this feels more like a scarecrow experience that it's in his mind than it is everything going on I know what was happening saying yeah, but it felt more like a scarecrow experience than a holographic experience I felt more like a mental experience. I get what you're saying, but then I also don't like why would you think that?
I don't know because you know it's the holograms right, but it's still it's because I don't know and I was thinking about it Then when I was watching in the movie I was like because I've never seen it portrayed in such a way right and even in the spider-man game Even in the spider-man game remember when he gets poisoned by scorpion right and it's in his mind. He's true She was you and he's like going through he really didn't go anywhere remember He wakes up and he was just laying on the floor Okay, so that's why when I was watching this I was like is this in his mind It's this is too crazy Like is this in his mind is this not his mind and I get it and it looked good and looked great And that's why I said like they did a really good job like hold on is this real or not because everything else look pretty damn Real nuts. Yeah, it was really crazy. See what's me that made total sense like within the story arc I just I thought it was happening in his mind, but that's why I'm just so confused Why the hell would you even think that because it was so much like craziness?
I was like is this happening in his brain? No, it's not it's all hologram. No, it's not in his mind. No, this is really happening He's really outside walking around somewhere.
So how is this working out? And then she took my direction to this? I was just confusing in my brain. I was done I think it was bad.
I think you got you to yeah, it was crazy I was like this is crazy I if and that's why I said it felt because of the experience that was happening it felt more like a scarecrow or An intoxication like he was poison then it was actually going on around him and I think I was the point yeah I think the point was on the part of the studio to say like I will like fuck up your reality Like you have no guards you have no sense of what is real? What is fake? Like you could be you could think I'm Nick Fury You could think like the most psycho insane shit I think the whole point of that scene was exactly that to make it seem that over the top because it was him like I'm Unraveling your whole world also super sick. Yeah, he was pretty good.
Yeah, he was pretending to be in a career Oh my god Yeah, well, yeah, yeah, I was like oh dude. Yeah, that's so good Yeah, I also still really like also when she's like sir. Do you need your cape still? He's like yeah I don't think okay I can literally be shaking the hand of the Queen Alright, so let's let's talk post credit scene.
Oh, yeah exciting What do you guys think of the first one dude the first post credit scene, right? You don't go for it like do an order I was more excited that was the original Jamison I yeah, that was so cool But it was a nod to the video game cuz never hit the podcast he had the audio right there right in front of it wasn't it was the Daily People calm his scrolls though. Yes. Yeah, he was Nick Fury But he was a scroll the whole time was what do you really think it was one of the old time totally even space the whole time doing what?
Secretation no that would be the baby. No, I think he's like cooting an army of scrolls for some reason It's kind cool, which means we don't probably want to get super school though Maybe because he's a bad guy who tries to go fantastic for so you couldn't really introduce super scroll without him being a bad guy But the scrolls are being good guys. They're gonna always be one person that like feels that they're better than the human race They should have to take over like a like a rogues roll But you have to introduce fantastic for just a super school because his powers literally guess what Disney just accrued Oh, yeah, I'm just saying so I'd give it a solid nine man I really want to say Tim, but I just never should give a movie a ten ever cuz there's always been like that We're in 9.5 dude Jason doesn't give reviews. He really liked it.
I get reviews. I don't give numbers Oh, yeah, dude give letters from alphabet dude from A to Z What was it? I just give it like an acting P for or S for splendid first Oh
