While acknowledging our brokenness, we must recapture God's perspective on human worth and dignity as revealed in Scripture.Key Points:Humanity's Exalted Place (Psalm 8): David marvels: Despite the vast cosmos, God is mindful of tiny humans! He made us:A little lower than heavenly beings.Crowned with glory and honor.Rulers/stewards over creation.Created as Image Bearers (Gen 1:26-28): Our core identity is being made in God's image and likeness. We are designed to reflect His character (love, justice, creativity, glory) and rule wisely on His behalf. Sin shattered this image, but Christ restores it. True humanity is found in Him.Cultural Lenses That Reduce Humanity: We often adopt unbiblical worldviews ("isms") that devalue people:Consumerism: Treats people as objects for gratification or means to an end (productivity, pleasure). Leads to objectification, transactional relationships.Naturalism: Reduces humans to mere matter/biology, denying the soul, inherent dignity, and eternal destiny. Leads to valuing only the tangible, temporal life.Individualism: Puts the self at the center, viewing others as supporting characters or obstacles in my story. Undermines our design for community.Consequences of a Low View: These reductionist views lead to hypocrisy, broken relationships, overlooking the vulnerable, and failing to see the immense potential God placed within each person.Recovering God's High View: We must consciously reject these "isms" and see people through God's eyes: as His image bearers, crowned with glory, deeply loved, redeemed by Christ, destined for eternity, and His treasured inheritance (Eph 1:18).Conclusion: God holds an extraordinarily high view of humanity, valuing us immensely as His image bearers and crowning us with glory. Christ came to restore that image. We must reject cultural narratives that reduce human worth and embrace God's perspective, seeing the profound dignity and eternal destiny in ourselves and others.Call to Action: Identify which cultural "ism" most influences how you view people. Ask God to replace that lens with His high view of humanity. Practice this view by intentionally blessing others this week – speak words that affirm their value and God-given identity, and consciously notice and dignify those often overlooked.
