Today we are visiting with Melissa Roach, Programs and Community Relations Manager of Charlie's House. Charlie Horn, age 2 On November 1, 2007, Charlie Horn, a 2-year-old Kansas City boy, was killed when he attempted to climb a 30″ dresser in his home. It was through this tragedy that Charlie’s House. was born. Brett and Jenny Horn, Charlie’s parents, turned their tragedy into a mission. The Horns began a movement to reduce in-home accidents through increased public awareness and education. We discuss practical tips on giving our kids the ability to explore safely, seasonal dangers, pool and water safety, the top things to do now, important numbers to have on hand, and more. They provide safety education on five main topics: home, water, fire, seasonal and vehicle safety. The Charlie's House Resource Center is available to the public, and anyone is encouraged to pick up safety devices, safety educational materials and more - all at no cost.
