Homemade Taco Seasoning Ep. 26 | Life at the Table

from A Savory Moment by Life At The Table · host Chef Sandra Lewis

Homemade Tacos Forget Taco Tuesday! Everyday can taco day with homemade tacos. There is something simple and satisfying about eating a taco whether it’s a crunchy or soft taco. Chef Sandra’s taco seasoning works well with any variation of protein your heart desires, ground beef, chicken, steak, shrimp, fish, tofu, or tempeh. Then the fun begins; load up your homemade tacos with the toppings you prefer, cheese, sour cream, salsa, jalapeno, beans, slaw, and the list goes on. We Can’t Get Enough of Homemade Tacos Americans can’t get enough of tacos, homemade or otherwise. We devour 4.5 billion each year. Laid end-to-end they could take you to the moon and back. Now that’s a trip I’d like to take as long as I can eat tacos on the way there and back. In fact, Mexican food has edged out pizzerias and now stands as the second most common US menu type. Where did the taco get its start? The History Of The Taco Historian and professor of history at the University of Minnesota, Jeffrey M. Pilcher, has studied Mexican food for 20 years. His theory is that the word “taco” dates back to the silver mines in Mexico where they inserted little charges of gunpowder wrapped in paper into the rock face. These were called tacos. The first use of the word taco as a food appeared in 1905 when a Los Angeles newspaper article referenced street food sold by a group of women called the Chili Queens. Save Your Health and Your Money – Make Tacos at Home Chances are you love homemade tacos just as much as I do! If so, try your hand at making them at home where you’re in control of the ingredients and the taste. Don’t spend a nickel on a taco seasoning packet where 1 serving of seasoning equals an average of more than 15% of your daily recommended sodium intake. Save your money and your health. Set up a homemade taco bar with a variety of toppings where everyone makes their own. Homemade taco night with Chef Sandra’s Tex Mex seasoning is perfect for a quick supper during the week or a delicious evening spent with friends and family on the weekend.
