Homosexual Rights and other Deviants in South Africa
from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa
In the latest action to stop homosexuality in Africa, last week two South Africans were held and interrogated by Tanzanian police in the capital Dar-es-Salaam for allegedly promoting homosexuality. They are yet to be charged.News reports state that the two were part of a group of 12 men, including a Ugandan and 9 Tanzanians who were arrested at a hotel. The East African country is not the only one to impose harsh laws against the LGBT group. In Uganda homosexual activity between men or women is punishable by life imprisonment, and in Sudan offenders can face as many as hundred lashes to life imprisonment. Are there real risks with being gay or should governments just allow people to choose how they want to live their lives? To discuss this further we are joined by: • Neela Ghoshal :Researcher in the LGBT Rights division at Human Rights Watch.• Juliet Mphande : Communications and Media Advocacy Manager (Amsher)• Liza Lombard: Volunteer at Doctors for Life International and a former homosexual.
