Honey Trade War Hits Canadian Producers | Calgary News

New U.S. tariffs are crushing Canadian honey producers, slapping a 50% tax that’s nearly shutting down exports—blocking 12 million pounds, or 15-20% of Canada’s total harvest. Beekeepers say it’s unsustainable, and American buyers are likely to pivot to other sources. With the harvest ending, Canada prepares to retaliate with its own tariffs on U.S. goods starting September 8th, leaving the industry unsure if this is a short-term bump or long-term damage. Ironically, trade tensions are sparking local pride: a Saskatchewan distillery saw sales surge as consumers flock to Canadian-made products. Meanwhile, a trampoline maker faces a double whammy—tariffs on imported materials plus potential duties on finished goods heading back to the U.S.—making exports prohibitively expensive. For honey producers, the real hope lies in finding new overseas markets, while domestic demand might just barely offset the loss. The industry waits, hoping for a fair resolution before their livelihoods unravel. Listen in comfort:Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
