1 Peter 2:17 is a review verse. Israel often worshipped and served idols which made idols their king. God will let you be rebellious and give you what you ask for understanding you will have a pentaly for choosing sin. The one limitation was God chooses the king (Saul). Saul was punished not for how he treated the people, but for his relationsip with God. Rebellion against authority will always result in sin against God. The Bible goes to great effort to help you honor authority. Authority is sent by God to punish evildoers and to praise those who do good. If you cannot submit to an ungodly command from authority, you submit to the punishment they choose. Pastor looked at the examples in the book of Esther of Queen Vashti, Mordecai, Esther and also in the book of Daniel of Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. Submit/fear God. Submit/honor the king.
