Hoofin' It with Fido: Hilarious Tails from the Barnyard and Beyond

On this episode of the Reading with Your Kids podcast, host Jed Doherty had the pleasure of chatting with two talented children's book authors - Annie Wyatt and Chris Strassel.  Annie Wyatt joined us from Charlotte, North Carolina to discuss her new picture book "A Horse in the Castle." Annie shared how her love of horses, especially after volunteering at a therapeutic riding program, inspired her to write a story that educates kids about the daily life of these majestic animals. She wanted to create a fun, rhyming tale that would get kids excited to learn more.  Annie also talked about the importance of reading aloud to kids, and how the rhythmic nature of her book helps young readers develop important literacy skills. As a mom herself, she gets so much joy seeing kids connect with her stories. Next, Jed welcomed Chris Strassel, who is based in Delaware, to discuss her debut picture book "Courageous Clooney." Chris rescued her dog Clooney after he was flown to safety during Hurricane Ida, and she was inspired to write a book that raises awareness about the dangers of heartworm disease in dogs.  Chris shared how she wanted to create an engaging, educational story that would help pet owners understand the importance of heartworm prevention. She's partnering with vets and shelters to ensure the book's profits can provide preventative treatment for dogs in need. Jed and Chris also chatted about the responsibility of pet ownership and how books can be a great way to teach kids about caring for animals. Both Annie and Chris showed their passion for using children's literature to make a positive impact. Their stories are sure to delight young readers while imparting valuable lessons.
