Hop Tu Naa

from Declaniom · host Declaniom

Hop Tu Naa is the Manx Halloween. When we were kids we went around the neighbourhood singing a song about a neglectful mother and a witch, people (especially those in pubs) would give us money to go away, which was supposed to be spent on fireworks to frighten the local pets for the next month. Nowadays the American practice of Trick or Treating has taken over, where kids dress up and get given sweets. Somehow this is seen as less wholesome.
