Hope is powerful, but it can be motivating or devastating at the same time. When you tie your emotions to hope and a short timeline, you tend to be devastated when things don't work out. When your hope is tied to the future with a somewhat undefined timeline, it keeps you on track as you continue to believe your effort will pull you through in the end.
