Hopes for increase in income limits for social housing
The Government are facing calls locally to raise income levels for social housing. Families in the north west claiming the working family payment often find themselves over the limit and excluded from both social housing and the housing assistance payment. At present, a single person earning more than €30,000 a year, or a couple earning over €31,500, are ineligible to apply for the housing list. Despite government assurances that the income limits are under review, Councillor Jimmy Brogan says nothing has changed in years:
