Hot Flashes, Lobster Rolls, and the Truth | Elizabeth Hamilton‑Guarino

from 50 Tastes Of Gray · host Matthew Gray - 50TastesOfGray

A warm, funny, and deeply human conversation about food allergies, family, identity, and the truths we only share with people we genuinely admire. Bestselling author Elizabeth Hamilton‑Guarino joins me for a warm, funny, and unexpectedly honest conversation about hot flashes, lobster rolls, food allergies, baseball, and the kind of truth that only shows up when two people genuinely admire each other. Elizabeth shares what it’s like to navigate life‑threatening food allergies in the land of lobster, raise four boys, and build a life between Maine and South Carolina — all with humor, humanity, and a lived‑in wisdom that feels instantly familiar. We talk about the snowbird lifestyle, the chaos and pride of being a baseball family, and the emotional weight of allergies that shape every meal, every trip, and every relationship. We explore her journey as a writer, the mission behind her Peace Guidebook, and the challenge of staying authentic in a noisy digital world. Together, we dive into resilience, unfinished conversations, the emotional connections tied to food, and the importance of completing the business of the heart with the people we love. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
