The pollen count is high this time of year, which we can blame almost entirely on an article published in 1939 that recommended only male trees be planted in growing city municipalities. Female trees, by contrast, shed fruit and seeds, as well as chemicals absorbed from wastewater and the nearby soil - but male trees facilitate removal through flowers and pollen. As a result, the number of seasonal allergy sufferers has risen exponentially since this edict.
