Transcript Speaker 1: On the Joy Law Firm text line, Shane Barrett says, "What about the 'R' word, Cole? Recruiting." I like it. I like it. Let's see here. It is Hilka Diesel, who gets in and says, "Goddang it, Diesel, verbiage. Did you—you all have a verbiage—" I don't know. Did—did uh— Speaker 2: Did I say verbiage? Speaker 1: Did Cole say verbiage? Speaker 2: Did Cole say verbiage? Speaker 1: 205 says they weren't beating Alabama last year either. And I get it, texter. I get it. Things can happen. I do get it. But um there's just no signs to point that Florida State's on the up. Earlier today, we had a fantastic conversation with Eric Mac Lain, just a few hours ago actually, of ACC Network. And um man, you talk about insightful, that interview. Now— Speaker 1: Continuing the conversation here at ACC kickoff. Cole Bryson, Diesel with you this afternoon. And uh a big show still to come. We've got Dabo Swinney. We've got a lot of audio from different players from the ACC. Eric Mac Lain though, joining us right now on the Fan Upstate from the ACC Network. Eric, how the heck are you, man? Eric Mac Lain: Man, I am great. Running through this uh little car wash right now, talking to everybody. But man, this is uh— it's one of my favorite things we do. Right? Just being able to talk to everybody, see all these players, see these coaches, uh and interact with people from all over the country covering these teams is is a ton of fun for me, man. So, I'm happy to be here. Thanks for having me. Speaker 2: Eric, you know, we're we're broadcasting out of the Greenville, South Carolina market. Obviously, we're right there with with Clemson all the time. And we're in the weeds with them. But you come to these events, you get to look at coaches in the eyes, you get to look at players in the eyes. So, as you as somebody that that covers it from the 10,000-foot view, what do you learn when you finally get a chance to look them square in the eye? Eric Mac Lain: Well, some of these guys, you know, just because of the world that we're in and changing aspect of uh you just get to see them in person, right? I mean, guys that are transferring, you know, outside of this conference or from other teams that we don't cover, and you know, just being able to see them and meet them is is a ton of fun and how those guys have emerged as leaders for their team to be able to represent their team here at something of this nature. So, I always like that uh and just the coaches' attitudes, man. I mean, you can kind of tell how a coach is feeling based on his answers. Is he giving you a ton of coach talk? Is he mentioning guys by name? Uh how's his attitude? Is he excited to be here? Is he kind of ready to move on to something else? Um and and I'll say just the what we've seen from NC State and Miami, there there is some good confidence there of both of those teams. I think it's pretty obvious with the Hurricanes, but NC State's been a team that is uh much of the topic of discussion this week. Speaker 1: Yeah, we actually are going to get to NC State uh in the 6:00 hour this evening as we're talking to you here around 3:20, 3:25. Eric, you know, NC State's interesting. Their defense last year was really bad. Yeah. Um CJ Bailey though, I mean, man, what a what a what a player to come back. And and I commend him for, you know, coming back. I'm sure he had a couple of other options out there as well uh when returning to NC State this offseason. But do you I guess do you believe into the hype? Because we we've kind of been down this road with NC State before. You know what I mean? Eric Mac Lain: We we have. And and I think the important thing is what happened in those seasons. Quarterbacks got hurt. Literally, both times that we thought NC State was going to be something playoff contender, quarterback breaks his leg, quarterback gets concussed and can't go back in. Two different occasions, barring that happening to CJ, uh yeah, I I think they're going to be reall ...
