That means the agricultural commissioner um is a very important position. Joining us right now. 01:38 We've got Cody Simpson who is running for agriculture commissioner here in South Carolina. And Cody, are you calling us from the White House? Yes, sir. Mr. Charlie, I wanted to make sure that we wanted to make sure that Mr. Charlie knew we at the White House and we're running for you and running for South Carolina. That sounds awesome. Now, the president made some pretty big announcements today at the White House about agriculture, right? Yes, sir. He is always putting our farmers first. 02:07 We are in the golden age and we've got to make sure that we are able to protect our food supplies. The food security is a matter of national security. Yeah. And that runs right through South Carolina. You're right. Like I said, number one industry in South Carolina, almost 52 billion annual economic impact, 260,000 jobs supported. So as agricultural commissioner, my big question is, what is your top priority for agriculture in South Carolina? 02:38 Number one is that we've got to make sure that we protect our farmlands. And right now we have somewhere along the way have dropped the ball and allowed for China, communist China to come in and to buy our land. And we have right here in South Carolina, unfortunately, we've got about 800 acres that Chinese own. We on day one, I'm going to work with the general assembly to ban Chinese owned land and do what they did in Arkansas and, 03:07 certainly retracted and take our land back. And that is important to us. The second most important part is that we've got to make sure that we keep our farmlands in production. And if that is that we need to create new market access, really working with the president and implementing his America First agenda of making sure that we're working with our trade. We had the deepest port on the Atlantic coast. 03:33 There's no reason why we should not be doubling. You mentioned 52 billion. There's no reason why we should be over 100 billion. Yeah. fact, because I believe in our people and I think the rural South Carolina truly, truly is the heartbeat of America. You are absolutely right. mean, going through, you know, driving around, just taking a look at some of the rural South Carolina, it is absolutely gorgeous. 03:59 Do you believe that some regulations in our state legislature, do they help or do they hurt our farmers? Well, sir, oh I've done my own study on the department currently and we're operating under a 1978 marketing order and we've got to do better. We've got to look at uh obviously things, times have changed. 04:22 since then and that means that some of the regulations may have what I've been understanding is that they are still stuck in the past and we've got to make sure that we're able to deliver on warp speed as we say Trump speed. the actual food to our people on a local level because our people are now understanding where their food comes from. 04:47 And the Department of Agriculture, some people don't know your South Carolina Department of Agriculture actually regulates all of the restaurants, the school cafeterias. And we've got to make sure that we're getting that locally grown produce and meat to our people. And I don't know of anybody who would not want that nutritious grown South Carolina peach. 05:10 uh, than in some other foreign country. Uh, but we've got to make sure we, again, ...
