The Roy Green Show on the Chorus Radio Network. There was never a commitment to offset the increases in minimum wage. I was very clear that that was not something that we were going to be able to do. We want our small businesses to be strong.

We want them to be able to thrive. What? Oh yeah, you said you were going to be clear. I got it.

800-263-2428, Green Show, Chorus Radio Network, minimum wage. Your call is in about 30 seconds. An email from Robert if raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour is a good idea. And it follows logically that $16 per hour would be a better idea.

Why not make it $100 per hour? Obviously Kathleen Wynne, from your Ontario, knows that $100 per hour would alert the general public to the fact that a government-mandated minimum wage is totally arbitrary. That it has nothing to do with what a free market would determine. $15 per hour is strictly a political decision.

It's designed to get votes and nothing else. Captain Flynn, the Ontario Minister of Labour, says most decent, law-abiding businesses will be largely unaffected by a $15 minimum wage. So if your business is affected, you're not decent and law-abiding? Minister.

That's from Robert. And you can answer that question. I'm right at the other end of 1-800-263-2428. Joel in Saskatoon.

Hey, Joel. Hey, how's it going? Good, sir. How are you doing?

Not too bad. Yes. So you were talking about earlier how the minimum wage isn't necessarily a wage to live on. And it should be used as a stepping stone to gain skills and to move to a better-paying wage, right?

And I'll give you an example of how artificially adjusting the free market will actually price these untrained people out of the market. So I have a small business. I'm a carpenter. And do smaller subcontracts, generally nothing that warns more than a few guys, right?

But training is really expensive. So if I find a young guy with no skills that's looking to get into the market and looking to get skills and find a better wage, if I can hire him for as cheap as possible during that training period, I will, right? But if I'm forced to pay a higher $15 an hour for somebody with no skills and still risk the concern of him learning from me and then moving somewhere else with his newfound skills now, right? I'm never going to hire that new kid with no skills.

I'm always going to look for somebody that actually warrants the money that I pay, or that I'm forced to pay. Yeah, that makes sense. And if you hire somebody, you automatically assume some responsibility for them because the law requires that. The labor code requires that.

The labor code places the onus on you to acquire some level of responsibility for the person you hired. And if I am forced to, then generally what's going to happen is I'm just going to increase my prices because everybody's going to do that in order to offset the loss and profit. Joel, what they've done is they've sold the concept that unless an employer is willing to pay $15 an hour, close to $15 an hour, that that employer is unfair, that that employer is taking advantage of the employee. I have a tweet here from Toronto Eric to at the Royal Green Show.

If you're a small business, can't afford $15 minimum wage, you shouldn't be in business. Yeah, that's crazy. I mean, there's so many different businesses at different levels from just starting up where they have very little running capital to work off of. And they're building just like all these people learning skills.

Not everybody can, they have very tight profit margins. Yes, sir, Joel. Sorry, one last thing. This is another issue of government trying to fix an issue with a band-aid solution as opposed to looking at the root of the cause.

If they want to actually figure out the root of the cause for why people can't live on wages, they've got to look at things like government debt, increase the money supply, and the inflation that they cause. Yeah, thank you for the call, Joel. I suspect as far as the Ontario government is concerned, they're only thinking election. Nothing else.

I'm going to talk to Carol in Vancouver and Dave in Barry, Ontario, and you, 800-263-2428. If you're a small business owner or a business owner, $15 minimum wage or $13 or $12 or $14 or whatever the government says to that, is that something that you can afford? And if you're working on minimum wage or working for minimum wage, do you think your employer is ripping you off if you're not getting $15 an hour? A lot of angles to this story.

A slave for Ontario means more police and prosecutors making sure my card doesn't get stolen. It means building new jails to keep criminals behind bars. And it means there's no need to worry when I play at the park. We're making every corner of Ontario safer to make all of Ontario safer.

That's how we protect Ontario. For all of us. Learn how at Ontario.ca slash safer Ontario. Paid for by the government of Ontario.
