Hour Of The Houndour

Will we finally reach Goldenrod City to challenge the Gym Leader? As predicted, we have a fun sidewinder episode that continues the trend of focusing on a single Pokemon species. The party stumbles upon some Pokémon footprints and start to track them down. In a nearby town (not Goldenrod City), we see Nurse Joy and Chansey, who play an important role in this episode. There are a series of thefts happening, including the mystery of Nurse Joy’s stolen ham. Brock sets up a hilarious trap involving wooden sausages and we finally get introduced to Houndour, who happens to be the first Dark-Type Pokémon to be shown in the anime. It leads to an epic battle with a group of Houndour and a bunch of the team’s Pokémon like Pikachu, Cyndaquil, Chikorita, Onix, and Psyduck. We also have the debut of Pikachu using the attack, Leer! If the Houndour weren’t enough, Team Rocket shows up and has a plan to capture the Houndour, which in the end results in the Houndour leader trusting Ash. While we didn’t get to Goldenrod City, this episode had some great battles, Pokemon and attack debuts, and a great story about gratitude.
