I have been writing about the certainty that horse owners, especially those in rural areas, would soon be out of options for finding expert veterinary care for their horses. There are three reasons: The high cost of veterinary education with a low return on salary drives veterinarians from the equine industry who need help to repay their student loans. Small animal veterinarians earn more. The generational changes desire a "quality of life" in a profession of equine service with high personal demands. Small animal veterinarians have more support staff and more free time. The demand of horse owners, driven by agenda-driven companies for reactive veterinary care, diminishes the observance of proactive, preventive horse care.
