Houthis and Al-Shabaab Form Dangerous Alliance | US News

Houthis in Yemen are secretly teaming up with al-Shabaab in Somalia, swapping weapons and military tactics — a dangerous alliance that could disrupt global shipping and expand both groups’ power. While once bitter rivals, the Shiite Houthis and Sunni al-Shabaab now unite against U.S. and Israeli interests, with key ties forged through figures like Jibril Yahya Ali. Al-Shabaab is reportedly getting advanced gear like anti-aircraft missiles and night-vision tech via fishing boats, while hundreds of fighters train in Yemen on drone strikes and IEDs. U.S. officials warn this partnership is deepening, giving al-Shabaab — al Qaeda’s top affiliate — access to new capabilities and boosting Houthi influence across the Gulf of Aden.
