Cheryl boiled it down to an analogy of when someone is looking for a book you are basically using an interface to query a database so therefore, you are using data! One of the biggest problems that she solved as a librarian was related to usage statistics. Figuring out what's getting used, how to tweak process to increase usage, and determining the return on money for books.
