How A Hardened Green Beret Met Jesus Through Ancient Psychedelics

In this deeply moving episode of The Deep End, I sit down with Tu Lam—the real-life Special Ops Green Beret whose story inspired one of Call of Duty's most iconic characters. From escaping wartime Vietnam on a fishing boat to enduring two decades of combat and battling addiction, Tu Lam's journey is as harrowing as it is hopeful. He shares how a chance encounter with "Amazing Grace" in Ranger School planted the first breadcrumb of God's mercy, and how a desperate walk with his dog led to an overwhelming encounter with Jesus that broke him and rebuilt him. Together we explore the cost of war—both physical and spiritual—and how faith can redeem even the darkest places. Join us as we unpack what it means to fight for freedom, find forgiveness, and discover purpose beyond the battlefield. Don't miss this unforgettable conversation.
