When we moved into our home, before we planted our garden - we tested our soil. Why ? Because I had no idea what the health of our soil was , the pH, the nutrients . I needed to get a baseline . Plants need certain nutrients to grow and thrive - and when we got the results - I knew exactly what amendments I needed to add for the soil to be a happy growth medium. The result - an abundant garden. I could have just thrown some stuff in the ground , tried some random amendments, and hoped for the best but most likely I would have had a poor harvest.
