How anyone can be a mentor

The image that comes to mind is that of a wise elder, but the qualities of a good leader are at odds with this narrow image. When asked, they often cite their wisdom, experience, ability to learn, ability to listen without prejudice, commitment to relationships, and ability to build trust and win. These descriptors paint a picture of someone who facilitates the mentee's learning by "being by his side," rather than of an authority directing a learning journey confined to his or her life experiences.
