How Can I Deal with Fear of the Unknown? (The Patrick Madrid Show)

from The Best of the Week · host Relevant Radio

If you're prone to worrying, struggling with anxiety, or feeling the need to control every little thing, Patrick Madrid has some wise, humble advice to help you breathe easier.   💬 Here’s the gist:   We’re not in control: God is! Jesus had a lot to say about letting go and trusting God. Worrying doesn’t change anything, but it sure wastes energy! Patrick reminds us to think of St. Teresa of Avila’s words:   "Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you... God never changes. Whoever has God lacks nothing. God alone suffices."   You’re here for a reason! Patrick shares that God has you here, now, in this moment for a purpose. It’s no accident we’re not in some other era. Instead, we're alive in this exact time: yes, with all its messiness and uncertainty, because God needs us here to do good.   Even if it all goes south, God’s got you. Sometimes, we fear that tomorrow will be completely different from today. Maybe we’ll wake up, and the world won’t look the same. And if that happens? That’s okay. God still has a plan. Whether it's a time of upheaval or peace, we’re called to do our best, whatever that looks like for each of us. For Patrick, it’s being a husband, father, and a voice on the radio. For you? Whatever your role, lean into it.   99% of what we worry about never happens. Patrick and Cyrus joke that most worries seem big at the time but end up disappearing without a trace. They laugh about all the energy spent on things that never happened, because isn’t that just how it goes?   So, here’s Patrick’s challenge: Don’t let worry rob your joy. Know that you’re here for a purpose, that you’re loved by a God who has your back, and that life is more about living than stressing.     The best way to listen to the Best of the Week is on our #1 Free Catholic App. It’s free, and always will be!
