How Can Short Sessions Lift German Athlete Strength

from Health Research Digest with Leo and Eva · host Leo and Eva

Scientists ran a PRISMA-registered systematic review and meta-analysis of 21 controlled trials on wholebody EMS in 540 sportspeople and athletes. They searched five databases, extracted maximum strength and power of the hips and legs, pooled effects with a robust IVhet model, and scored quality with PEDro and TESTEX. Overall, wholebody EMS produced a moderate strength gain (SMD 0.62) and a smaller power gain (SMD 0.38). That evidence suggests wholebody EMS can help trained athletes add force and explosiveness—especially when stacked on existing drills or used as a joint-friendly stand-in for heavy lifting. Methods are transparent and conservative. Read the full post for protocols, limits, and who benefits most.
